Former Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said today lodged a police report in connection with a man with a “Datukship” who allegedly used his name for fraud involving RM1.8 million.
He took advantage of a break at the Terengganu state legislative assembly sitting to lodge the report at the Kuala Terengganu district police station here at 10.50 am.
When met by reporters, Ahmad claimed the man, aged 52, had used his name while he was still Menteri Besar for fraud to obtain RM1.8 million purportedly for a logging area from a sawmill manager here from Singapore.
“The manager has handed over the money to the “Datuk” after he was deceived into believing that he (Datuk) is close to me with the reason it was to be given to me and he will be given a logging concession area.” he said.
The Kijal state assemblyman said he was not acquainted with the “Datuk” and wanted the police to conduct a detailed investigation to bring the conman to justice.
Ahmad said the individual had tarnished his name and reputation as a politician.
“I was aware of this case after someone came to meet me and informed the company manager was angry for not getting the logging areas that was promised in September last year.
“I was still the Terengganu Menteri Besar at that time and have meet with the manager concerned besides asking him to lodge a police report,” he said.
Meanwhile Terengganu Speaker Datuk Mohd Zubir Embong, when met by Reporters, said the Kijal assemblyman left the sitting after obtaining his permission on reasonable grounds.
Ahmad. who became Terengganu Menteri Besar in 2008, resigned from his post and was replaced by Seberang Takir assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman last May.
